can, could, may, might, เป็นกริยาช่วย could  เป็นอดีตของ can และ might เป็นอดีตของ may

1. การใช้ can, could, may, might

ตัวอย่างเช่น

They can help you now.

The boy scouts could help the villagers.

2.ใช้ not ตามหลัง can, could, may, might เมื่อเป็นปฏิเสธ

They cannot help you now.

The could not help the villagers.

The girls may not come to the party.

The doctor might not save her life.

3.ในประโยคคำถามจะวาง can, could, may, might ไว้หน้าประธาน

Can you go to the movies now?

Could they come to school?

Might she give the lecture?

4.Could + have + past participle(verb 3) ใช้บอกความเป็นไปได้ในอดีต แต่ความเป็นจริงเหตุการณ์นั้นไม่เกิดตามที่คาดไว้

She could have come to the party last night, but she did not

Dara could have met the student last Sunday.

5.ใช้ cannot และ could not แสดงการห้าม ใช้ cannot ในปัจจุบันหรืออนาคต และใช้ could not ในอดีต หรือแสดงความหมายเป็นอนาคต
